Our goal at Spark Governance Coaching is to help organizations achieve their long term goals effectively. We have a strong interest in working with small, not for profit groups and associations in Western Canada. We can help you overcome the common challenges that Boards face in these times of information overload, increasing legal and fiduciary responsibilities, and limited funds.

Policy Governance®

We believe that the Policy Governance® model is an important tool for Boards wishing to govern effectively, and specialize in its implementation and training. Services include onsite meeting facilitation, policy development, CEO evaluation and coaching support.

Administrative Support

We are available to help you streamline your day-to-day activities and offer valuable expertise in administration and management, including policy development, operations, staffing, and finance.

 
 

About Policy Governance®:

Policy Governance® is a model of governance that has been used widely by Boards in the not-for-profit, corporate and governmental sectors for over 40 years. (Originally developed by John and Miriam Carver, the model was also sometimes referred to as the Carver Model.)

Organizations using the model report having a clearer long term vision and Directors have a better understanding of their roles and responsibilities.

How is Policy Governance® Effective?

  • Policy Governance® focuses on the long term goals of the organization;

  • sets out the separate roles and accountability of the Board and staff (or volunteers);

  • establishes clear policies for the organization that guide all Board decisions;

  • provides a plan for directors, ensuring the Board does what it needs to do, and doesn’t spend valuable time on other tasks;

  • is tailored to the unique characteristics of the organization. This is not a “one size fits all” approach to governance;

  • provides Directors with comfort knowing that their legal responsibilities are being fulfilled;

  • often results in Boards accomplishing more of the right thing in less time!

 

How can we work together?

As the needs of every organization are different, our service packages are always Individually tailored. Coaching can be short term, designed to address a specific issue or concern, or can be a long term relationship to assist a Board with its ongoing commitment to excellence in governance. This way, you only commit to the services required by your organization and that suit your budget. There’s no long term commitment required, although we are always here to work with you on a long term basis if that suits your needs.
